John Vervaele
John Vervaele is Professor at Utrecht Law School, Willem Pompe Institute for Criminal Law and Criminology and Utrecht Centre for Regulation and Enforcement in Europe (Renforce), as well as Professor at College of Europe, Bruges.
His research record includes 38 years of experience. The main research topics are: enforcement of Union law; standards of due law, procedural safeguards and human rights; criminal law and procedure and regional integration; comparative economic and financial criminal law; terrorism and criminal procedure.
His teaching record includes, besides the introductory courses of criminal law and criminal procedure, financial criminal law, international criminal law, European criminal law, comparative criminal procedure at bachelor, master and post-master level. Vervaele is a regular visiting professor in these areas at European and International Universities (including the US, China and Latin America).
Vervaele is the President of the International Association of Penal Law (AIDP). He is also member of the steering committee of the European Criminal Law Academic Network (ECLAN) and elected member of the Counsel of the European Law Institute (ELI) in Vienna.
