Gerhard Kemp

Gerhard Kemp is professor of criminal law and international criminal law at Stellenbosch University. He is also an advocate of the high court of South Africa. Gerhard was previously a senior research fellow at the Robert Bosch Academy in Berlin and is a fellow of the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study as well as an Alexander von Humboldt research fellow. Gerhard is a director of the Institute for Justice and Reconciliation in Cape Town and is the author of many works on criminal justice and post-conflict studies. His most recent book publications include: Criminal Law in South Africa 3rd ed (2018) OUP; and International Criminal Tribunals as Actors of Domestic Change – The Impact on Institutional Reform (2019) Peter Lang (with Klaus Bachmann and Irena Ristić).
